Cameco’s Fund for Mental Health Opens 2024 Application with $118,000 Available for Local Mental Health Programming

(Port Hope, Ontario, Canada – October 1, 2024) – Surpassing last year’s record-setting numbers, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has raised over $118,000 to support mental health initiatives in the Northumberland County area. The application period for the fund opens on October 1, 2024.

In May, Cameco hosted the Step Up for Mental Health 5k event, which raised over $78,000 with the support of 700 runners and walkers, with every dollar collected from registration fees being matched by Cameco. In June, Cameco held its 13th annual Cameco Charity Golf Tournament, raising more than $21,000 with a sold-out tournament at Dalewood Golf and Country Club. These events, along with donations and employee events bring the total funding available to $118,000.

This year’s achievement marks the most successful year to date, bringing the total raised to over $375,000 since the fund launched in 2019. In its five-year history, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has delivered 44 grant opportunities to assist mental health programs and initiatives locally.

“Since 2019, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has made a broad range of investments into programs and initiatives addressing mental health in our community, including peer support groups, staff wellness programs, mental health first aid training, crisis intervention, community counselling, and more,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “We are grateful to the individuals and organizations committed to advancing this work each day and are proud to be a part of a community that is actively involved in supporting these efforts.”

The Cameco Fund for Mental Health is managed through the Saskatoon Community Foundation. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of local mental health professionals and representatives from Cameco. The grant application is open to registered charities, non-profits, and organized groups. The deadline for online applications is 5 p.m. on October 30, 2024.

All funds will be distributed to organizations undertaking projects that promote or protect mental health in the Northumberland County area.
