Cameco Fund for Mental Health awards 2024 grants to 12 Northumberland County organizations
PORT HOPE, Ontario, Canada (December 16, 2024) – The Cameco Fund for Mental Health has awarded $120,000 to support 12 mental health initiatives and organizations in Northumberland County. These grants aim to support a variety of organizations and mental health initiatives while benefitting a wide range of people living in our communities.
This year, two events were held in support of the Cameco Fund for Mental Health. In May, Cameco hosted the Step Up for Mental Health 5k, which raised over $78,000 with the support of 700 runners and walkers. Every dollar collected through registration fees was matched by Cameco. In June, Cameco held its 13th annual Cameco Charity Golf Tournament, raising more than $21,000 with a sold-out tournament at Dalewood Golf and Country Club. These events, along with donations and employee events helped to bring the total funding available to $120,000.
The fund was launched in 2019, and over the past six years the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has granted nearly $410,000 to support mental health programs in Northumberland County.
“We continue to be inspired by the passionate local organizations and community groups delivering mental health resources and programming to meet the unique needs of our community,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “The hard work and dedication are admirable, and Cameco is proud to support this vital work across Northumberland County.”
This fall, Cameco announced a public call for funding allocations, and in November, submissions were adjudicated by a panel of Cameco representatives, local mental health experts and the Saskatoon Community Foundation, which is the administrator for the grants.
