Cameco Fund for Mental Health 2021 Awards Grants to Nine Northumberland County Organizations

PORT HOPE, Ontario, Canada (January 31, 2022) – The Cameco Fund for Mental Health has awarded nine grants totaling $43,000 to organizations in Northumberland County working on mental health projects. This year’s grants will benefit a wide range of people including students and youth, families, front line workers at local agencies, and more.

Now in its third year, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health was established to directly assist organizations and groups that are working to address and support mental health in Northumberland County and area. A total of $43,000 was raised through the 2021 Cameco Charity Golf Package at Dalewood Golf Club and the virtual Step Up for Mental Health Run/Walk. The fundraising total includes golfer registration fees, sponsorships, Step Up registration fees, a matching amount from Cameco, and individual donations.

Thanks to the support of the community, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has distributed over $150,000 to local organizations since 2019.

“These past two years have been especially challenging, and for many people it has taken a toll on mental wellbeing,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “We are grateful to all of the individuals and sponsors who joined us in helping to raise these much-needed funds that will make a difference to mental health services in our community.”

Following a call for funding applications in November, submissions were adjudicated by a panel of representatives from Cameco, local mental health experts and the Saskatoon Community Foundation, which is the administrator for the grants.

The 2021 Cameco Fund for Mental Health recipients are:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland
  • Burnham Public School
  • Cobourg Collegiate Institute
  • Grafton Public School
  • KBI Inspire Magazine
  • Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation
  • Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club
  • Rebound Child & Youth Services Inc.
  • Transition House Coalition of Northumberland
